The Carnival Freedom cruise ship caught fire early Thursday morning while docked in the eastern Caribbean.
According to Carnival Cruise Lines, the ship’s funnel caught fire while the ship was in Grand Turk. The fire in the ship’s funnel was put out by Carnival’s emergency response team, according to the company.
Carnival stated that all guests and crew were safe and that local authorities had cleared the ship’s passengers to go ashore.
On Monday, the Carnival Freedom set sail from Port Canaveral on a five-day cruise around the eastern Caribbean. It was supposed to make a similar trip beginning Saturday.
Carnival Cruise Lines stated that they are “continuing to assess the situation,” but no information on the guests or the ship has been provided.
