Experience life on the high seas year-round in luxury accommodations with a new project that’s making waves. Storylines, a private residential ship maker, has partnered with Croatian shipyard Brodosplit to create the world’s first environmentally conscious residential ship. Dubbed MV Narrative, this 753-foot vessel is currently in its engineering phase and has an estimated retail value of $1.5 billion.
With room for 547 residences, this massive ship will be powered by liquid natural gas propulsion, making it the first of its kind. Its maiden voyage will cover hundreds of destinations across six continents, and stops at ports are expected to range between one and five days. One sample itinerary shows the ship spending over a month off the coast of Italy, giving passengers ample time for offshore adventures like touring Tuscany.
What sets MV Narrative apart from other cruise ships is its focus on providing a floating community complete with amenities that mimic life on land. In addition to 20 dining and bar venues, there will be a post office, school, library, hospital, bank, and even office spaces. Passengers will also enjoy access to a waterfront marina with personal watercraft, a bowling alley, a hydroponic garden farm, and an open-air fitness area with racquet sports, a yoga sun deck, and a running track. A 10,000-square-foot wellness center, complete with designated spa and gym rooms and an anti-aging clinic, will also be available.
The ship’s waste will be converted into energy, and a solar-powered hydroponic garden will provide fresh food without consuming excess resources. Passengers can shop at the zero-waste farmer’s market where everything for sale is either compostable or recyclable.
MV Narrative is the brainchild of Storylines founders Shannon Lee and Alister Punton, who aim to give global travelers the chance to explore while maintaining work, family, and home life. According to Tomislav Debeljak, president of Brodosplit’s board, “There are many new green technologies and ship systems we are pioneering, which makes this a very exciting project for us.”
Residences will range from $1 million to $8 million,
