As it was exiting the Port of Gibraltar, Bulk carrier OS 35 collided on 29 August with LNG tanker Adam LNG. Although the damage to the tanker was minor, OS 35 was still making water at the bow. The OS 35 was directed to Catalan Bay in order to stop the ship from sinking.
According to the Government of Gibraltar, no one was injured in the collision of the ship and the subsequent grounding of it. The OS 35 has 24 crew, and all are still aboard at the captain’s request.
The vessel is located just 200 metres from Catalan Bay. The vessel’s bow rests on the seabed in 17m of water. Starboard is only three degrees away. Today, the Gibraltar Port Authority stated that the vessel had remained stable overnight with no significant developments.
Gibraltar Port Authority (GPA) has sent a notice to mariners, with a 200-meter exclusion area already in place at the OS 35. GPA temporarily suspended port operations during the initial stages for about four hours yesterday. However, the port is now fully functional.
The Port Authority is always on the scene and has all available resources in case of evacuation. A total of 400 metres of the boom is readily available to deploy around the vessel in case of an oil spillage.
