The 24,116 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) MSC TESSA, the largest container ship in the world, was undocked on Monday at the Shanghai shipyard of its manufacturer Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co Ltd, a division of the largest shipbuilder in the world China State Shipbuilding Corp. The Chinese shipyard has made another advancement in the construction of extremely big container ships.
The ship, which Hudong-Zhonghua independently designed, is 399.99 meters long and 61.5 meters wide.
The container ship has a desulfuration unit and is outfitted with cutting-edge technology to ensure environmental sustainability, energy effectiveness, economy, and safety.
The ship’s carbon emissions will be reduced by 3 to 4 percent, thanks to the energy-efficient system.
The ship, which is projected to be delivered within this year, is the first of four 24,116-TEU vessels ordered by Mediterranean Shipping Company S A.
