49-meter Aegean Yacht 007 ran aground in the waters off Kythnos, in the Cyclades Islands chain of Greece.
The incident happened on Friday, September 2, after the yacht apparently hit rocks. It was a steep list that resulted in her taking on water.
According to a local Coast Guard statement, the yacht is currently semi-submerged on the ocean floor at 15m from the beach.
Authorities have now controlled the yacht with a floating seawall, and local media reports no pollution. Five passengers were safely evacuated from the boat and transferred to the local port.
Bodrum’s shipyard Aegean Yacht delivered yacht 007 in 2006. She was a 40-meter yacht. Since delivery, she has been extended twice to bring her total LOA to 49 meters.
