The first trip of the world’s biggest cruise ship is coming up soon, and it will be a big deal because of how big and luxurious the ship is. Its name is “Icon of the Seas,” and it’s a huge ship. It’s so big that it’s five times bigger than the Titanic. We can only hope that the first trip, and all the other trips after that, go better than the one in 1912.
Icon of the Seas was built in a shipyard in Finland for the cruise line Royal Caribbean. It has already made its first trip out into open water, and it is expected to be delivered in October. The huge ship is 365 meters long, which is about 1,200 feet, and it weighs 250,800 tonnes. Don’t worry too much if you don’t know what that means. Just know that it’s a lot.
The ship will set sail for the first time in January 2024, taking guests around the world in style. By the way, it will easily be able to hold 7,600 passengers and 2,350 team members. This means that the ship can hold around 10,000 people while it is at sea.
The Icon’s real showpiece is the world’s biggest waterpark at sea. It has six slides that have broken records, as well as seven pools and nine whirlpools for those who don’t want to do anything too scary. The ship should be given to the company on time after being built at the Meyer Turku yard, before its first trip in 2024.
As of now, the Wonder of the Seas, which is also owned by Royal Caribbean, is the biggest cruise ship in the world. It is only 1,188 feet long, and there are only 18 decks instead of 20 on the Icon.
How could you live with only 18 decks? That’s gross.
In addition to the “Category 6” waterpark, there is also the AquaDome, which will have shows, a huge viewing area, and the 55-foot-tall largest waterfall at sea. There is also a full park, a ‘chill island’ pool deck, and a swim-up bar. On top of that, there are a lot of bars and restaurants, a surf simulator, a mini-golf course, a sports court, rock climbing, and, well, you get the idea.
That’s before you think about how your trip will take you all around the Caribbean and include a day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island resort. It will be an amazing piece of technology, and you’ll be able to hop on board in January 2024, when it starts its trip around the world.
But bring your checkbook, because this kind of luxury isn’t cheap.
