Shanghai Pan-Asia Shipping, Cosco’s intra-Asian container line subsidiary, will shortly operate a new set of Yangtze feeders.
Shanghai Pan-Asia will charter two all-electric 700 teu ships from Cosco Shipping Development on a long-term basis. Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) is building the ships for a total cost of $18.24 million. They will be delivered in late 2023.
The ships will transport containers between Wuhan and Shanghai, aligning with Beijing’s objective of greening traffic on the Yangtze, the world’s busiest river.
The 120-meter-long ships have a 5.5-meter draught and are powered by 36 20-foot containerized batteries that can be charged to 50,000 kWh using shore power.
