According to police, a professional diver working as an ornamental fisherman died after being attacked by a crocodile in the seas off the coast of Dehiwala Sri Lanka on the 3rd of January. The deceased was a 53-year-old father of one who resided in the Ratmalana Railway houses.
Following the incident, the man was taken to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival, according to hospital sources.
A crocodile roughly 15 feet long was witnessed carrying the victim into the sea by a group of fishermen. Despite the fact that they were able to save him, the crocodile’s hold seriously damaged his chest and arm. The crocodile was seen loitering on the shore even after the incident.
The Attidiya Wildlife Office has initiated a search and capture effort for the crocodile.
Crocodiles have been spotted in the sea off the coast of Dehiwala on multiple occasions. This crocodile species has also been reported to live near the water, according to ecologists. Despite the fact that the Department of Wildlife and the Navy collaborated to initiate many operations to capture these sea crocodiles, the operations were unsuccessful due to the crocodiles’ transient nature.
